Brief Description Starting life as a Roman fort where Ermine Street crossed the River Nene, Durobrivae developed into an important Roman town just outside present-day Peterborough. It acted as a market place for the salt trade from the Fens in the east and for the ironworks and potteries in the uplands to the west. |
