The IMPAC Award is the world's most lucrative literary award and given to the author of any book published in English, including those that are translated.

Nicola Barker has won the 2000 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award worth IR £100,000 with her novel Wide Open. It is the story of a group of eccentric characters thrown together on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, and reveals how they come to terms with the past. This is Barker's third novel.
