| | Famed for his black mask and surreal sense of humour, Subcomandante Marcos arrived in the Chiapas in Mexico in 1984, white skinned, university educated and determined to lead a guerilla movement. His writings, available in newspapers and widely disseminated within Mexico, have been a fundamental source of his power. In spring 2001 Subcomandante Marcos emerged triumphant from the jungle to walk into Mexico City to meet with the Mexican President. Marcos is now back in the jungle organizing the resistance. |
