| | Butcher, John
| | | John Butcher's first taste of writing as a career was an article about bull fighting in Costa Rica, written for the Central American country's English language publication The Tico Times, while he worked on a farm near the Orosi Valley.
He landed his first full time journalism job on the Warminster Journal, one of England's few remaining independently-owned newspapers, around a year-and-a-half later.
After stints on newspapers and magazines in England and the Bahamas he entered the world of financial journalism in 2000, writing mainly about the expanding international hedge fund business.
Work took him from London to New York, where he began writing his first book, The Lethe Fund, from an apartment in downtown Manhattan.
Work on the book continued in China, when he took a job working for the Beijing Review, a weekly magazine produced by the Chinese state.
Two years later he relinquished his Foreign Experts certificate to go freelance, working first from Guangzhou in the south of China.
He now lives in Derby, from where he continues to work as a freelance journalist.
